The pen-diameter profile allows the HTA slimline to be carried in standard pen holders on clipboards, inserted into the spiral binding of tactical notebooks and field pads, loaded into pen pockets on military and law enforcement uniform shirts, stored alongside actual pens in gear organizers without consuming additional space, and deployed as a covert marking tool that does not visually identify the carrier as possessing chemiluminescent equipment. The reduced diameter requires a modified internal ampoule geometry — a flat-section ampoule rather than the cylindrical ampoule used in standard-diameter sticks — to fit within the 3mm outer diameter casing while maintaining the snap-activation reliability of the standard HTA product.
